No Shade Thrown: Eleven of Miami's Best Stores for Sunglasses

View as Map

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

When it comes to finding sunglasses, Miami isn't short of stores to find your perfect set. Wynwood has seen an explosion of eyewear stores over the past year, with new additions like Zthea, Wynwood Shades, and of course, Warby Parker. Plus, certain stores, like Sunglass Hut and Edward Beiner, have multiple locations around town for you to get your fix.

Sure, you can find sunglasses practically anywhere, from single brand shops to department stores, but to keep this map from being 50 stores deep, we included only those stores dedicated to eyewear, where you can find sunglasses from multiple retailers at a time. Without further ado, here are our favorites this year, so quit throwing shade and just put on a pair.

The pursuit of perfect eyewear is something to be taken seriously, and I On the District holds this to the highest esteem. This Design District store carries a hefty selection of handcrafted sunglasses from small Italian, French, German and Japanese labels, as well as big names like Céline, YSL and Ray Ban. Bonus? Check out its collection of vintage specs, which hail back to the 20s and 30s. [Photo: Design District]

Artsee Eyewear

Don't expect to find your run of the mill Ray Ban aviators here at Artsee. Instead, you'll find interesting shades from brands like Christian Roth, Mykita, and other high-end designers from across the globe, from the Netherlands to Japan. Eyewear here is unique, hand-made, hard-to-find, or a combination of the three, so scope out this club-like store if you're looking for sunglasses that truly make a statement.

Sunglass Hut

Fun fact: Sunglass Hut got its start in Miami as a small kiosk in Dadeland Mall in the 70s, and ever since it's been dominating the world's sunglass scene. From Ray Ban wayfarers to Marc Jacobs aviators, you can find practically any big name brand of shades at any one of its standalone stores or department store kiosks throughout Miami. [Photo]

With a location in the heart of South Beach, this is a one stop shop to find your ultimate sunnies, whatever the style. It's essentially designer, so rock those Tom Fords proudly down Ocean Drive. [Photo]

Edward Beiner

We sat down with Beiner to talk about his 30 year stint as South Florida's eyewear expert, and ever since then we've kept an eye on him, no pun intended. Aside from carrying the Edward Beiner house brand, you can find high end selections from Tag Heuer, Chanel, Cartier and Italia Independent, not to mention performance shades from Persol and Maui Jim at any of his 11 locations, from South Miami to West Palm Beach. Oh, and fun fact: Beiner is supplying all the eyewear for Jeb Bush this campaign season. [Photo]
Oakley is all about the active, adventurous lifestyle, so don't expect anything frilly here. The shades are extremely customizable, so expect to be the coolest looking dude or chick on the slopes or in the sea. [Photo]

Zthea is one of Wynwood's latest boutiques to open, and inside its stark white eyewear trunks you'll find big brands like Miu Miu and Celine at this newly opened Wynwood boutique. We'll urge you to skim over these and explore the brands Zthea carries exclusively in the area, like Dita, Barton Perreira, Thierry Lasry, and the Beyoncé-approved Etnia Barcelona.

Wynwood Shades

Tucked into the newly burgeoning Wynwood Block, Wynwood Shades carries an array of designer brands like Chopard, Balenciaga, and Tom Ford, plus other up and comers like Illesteva and Hally & Sons.

Warby Parker Annex

Looking for stellar shades for under $150? Warby Parker is your guy. The brand's Wynwood Annex seriously looks like the inside of an eight foot pool, but the coolest thing about this store, by far, is the overhead photobooth. Put on some turtle shell shades and say, 'CHEESE!"
