Thirteen Hair Salons to Get a Summer Hair Cut in Miami

View as Map

Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Our new weekly series Get Right for Summer has one aim: to make sure you're completely beautified before the thermostat hits 90. Whether you're in the market for a new manicurist or you want to try your luck at getting faux bronzed, we''ll tell you where to go.

There's nothing like a summer trim to get the ball rolling with your beauty routine and with the sidewalks already sizzling by mid-morning, we're going to suggest moving that hair appointment up about a month. Miami has blocks upon blocks of worthy salons to get your main shaped, whether you want to indulge in a glamorous, world-class, wine-serving experience, or you're just looking for a local neighborhood dig.

We've scouted out a few great finds for you, from the incredibly affordable Paul Mitchell School to the highly trained staff at Van Michael Salon, which will soon be taking over the historic old stomping grounds of Van Dyke Cafe. The list is highly subjective, so feel free to add your favorite stylists and salons in the comments below, and if you do pay a visit to one of our picks, let us know how it went!

Junior & Hatter looks more like a cluttered garage than it does ritzy hair salon, but don't let the facade fool you. Mario Silvestri is one of the top guys in town when it comes to using scissors. Allure Magazine has paid notice, and maybe you should too. [Photo: Mayleen Gonzalez]

Frank and Leo

Janeth's Grotto

Don't let the subpar facade of Janeth's grotto fool you. She's a local favorite when it comes to hair cuts (just look at her Yelp ratings) and has become so popular, she had to start opening her salon at 7am to fit in all her appointments. Nothing like an a.m. blowout to fix those Monday morning blues, am I right? [Photo: Yelp]

Razzle Dazzle Barbershop

If you're looking for that authentic, vintage barbershop experience, then step right into RazzleDazzle on Miracle Mile. Trims aren't unreasonable, but you could also splurge on The Park Avenue, which gives you unlimited hair cuts and weekly shaves for a year, all while getting your shoes shined. [Photo: Gilt City]

Paul Mitchell The School Miami

At $15, Paul Mitchell will get you the best cut for your buck. Before they hit the floor the salon's "future professionals" are trained for nine weeks and if you manage to get a Phase 2 stylist, they've already got 700 hours under their belts. While we wouldn't recommend going here for a crazy, off-the-wall cut (they are students, after all) a light trim or bang snip for that price is a steal. [Photo: Facebook]

Miller's Studio

Miller's Studio is home to Dee Adames, winner of Bravo's Shear Genius. Depending on the job a haircut will cost between $65 and $100. They do, however, have a referral program. If you refer a friend, both you and she or he will receive $20 off a cut. [Photo:

Belleza

You can enjoy a whole day of pampering at Bellezza Spa, however today we're focusing on their hair program. Cuts for women begin at $75 and if you go, ask for Stanley, who's a local fave. [Photo: Yelp]
