Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

We thought we had seen it all when Kim Kardashian bloodied her mug during a "vampire facial" on Kourtney and Kim Take Miami– until Gwyneth Paltrow took to Goop to recommend "vaginal steaming." Vaginal steaming, as explained by Paltrow, involves sitting on "mini throne" (I guess she's outgrown her pedestal?) that wisps a moist cleanse up one's lady parts and "balances hormone levels." As expected, the internet exploded on Paltrow, with experts shooting down her claims. Still, we were intrigued; the heat has to feel kind of nice, no?

With Miami being a mecca for age defiance and aesthetic aspirations, we had to know where local ladies could find such unconventional treatments and create verdicts for themselves. After unraveling Miami's best brain boosting spa treatments, we poked into fitness centers, cosmetic facilities, and spas to find the most out-of-the-box beauty tactics and body boosters in town, including the headline-producing vampire facial and Goop-approved vaginal steam. Vaginal Steaming at The RedĀ Tent

Over at Boca's Red Tent Wellness, the vaginal steam bath is done Korean-style, swapping Paltrow's throne for an electrically warmed water cup. Selected herbs lie beneath the cup, and clients are given a "vent" to control the treatment's intensity. Though vaginal steaming is popular throughout Asia, South America, and the Caribbean as a means to "improve fertility, soothe and shrink hemorrhoids, and regulate the menstrual cycle," modern medicine does not back the steaming process.

There may never be enough hours in a day, but there is a way to catch up on lost sleep when visiting The Spa at Miami Beach Edition. The facility's Power Nap add-on service mimics four hours worth of sleep in just 30 minutes via electro-stimulation. Spa reps recommend the treatment after a customized massage. The Edition is still quite new, so only a handful have attested to the therapy's efficiency.

Astrology buffs, this one is for you. The Ritz-Carlton South Beach's exclusive Astro-Balance Massage is an 80-minute journey designed around one's astrological sign and element - earth, air, water, or fire. An astrologer and massage therapist work together to customize the treatment, carefully selecting essential oils and massage techniques and honing in on bodily kinks. The takeaway? Finding balance through physical and astrological alliance. Note to singles - this is not the time for sign-driven dating advice.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber at Anatomy atĀ 1220

Claustrophobics are sure to love Anatomy 1220's Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber. (It's huge)! It administers pure oxygen doses at an atmospheric pressure 1.5 to 3 times greater than normal. The upped pressure increases the blood's oxygen saturation, thus delivering more oxygen to the body's tissues. Though originally designed for scuba divers in the 1930s, the modality grew with athletes recovering from injuries or training for competitions. In addition to lowering inflammation and speeding up muscle recovery, the chamber has shown to reduce fatigue, aid sleep, and boost immunity.

PRP Rejuvenation at The Miami Institute for Age Management andĀ Intervention

The decades-old procedure was previously used to help burn victims and wounded athletes, before Kim Kardashian put it on blast. During this popular dermatological treatment, synthetic dermal fillers (or skin plumpers like Botox or Dysport) are replaced with platelet rich plasma (PRP) from one's own blood. The PRP serum is used to fill in fine lines and wrinkles. Using PRP over dermal fillers signals the body's natural healing properties, thus stimulating collagen production. The result is smoother skin, with effects that last up to two years. Despite PRP Rejuvenation's graphic means, few have argued against its end gain.
