Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.

Vintage shopping is the modern day treasure hunt, only compasses have been swapped for Google Maps, and doubloons have been replaced with Chanel. Not to be confused with consignment shops, where people trade in clothes for cash, or thrift stores, where people donate clothes for nothing in return, vintage stores contain highly curated racks and shelves of goods, designer or not, hand-selected by owners and buyers who have a flare for fashion of the antiquated sort.

We've done some curating ourselves, and after the jump you'll discover eight of Miami's best vintage shops, arranged from north to south. Consignment shops aren't part of the roundup, although we do have a handy guide for you here.

Have any vintage tips or know of a store we might have missed? Give us a heads up in the comments section. Now click through to start your old-timey treasure hunt.

The Rabbit Hole

If Alice fell through this rabbit hole, her wonderland experience wouldn't have been such a bad thing. Whether you're lurking for a 50s new look dress or you're ready to invest in some serious 80s shoulder pads, this small North Miami Beach store offers a highly curated selection of vintage goods, available both at their brick and mortar and online shop. C. Madeleines

Broken down into decade and style, to shop at C.Madeleine's is to live within the pages of a fashion history book, with all the Pucci, Missoni and Chanel (there's a dedicated section) that you could ever dream of. Come June every year, the vintage dream warehouse has an annual sale, where vintage treasures are priced at up to 95 percent off, thus proving that miracles do happen. [Photo]

Inside this carefully curated and moderately priced vintage closet you'll find raggedy Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin concert tees, vintage air force bomber jackets, beaded clutches from the 30s and dresses to chanel your inner Donna Summers. Old issues of Vogue and Bazaar are piled alongside vintage home accent pieces and there's a huge shelf of jeans that are moderately priced between $28 and $78. [Photo: Ashley Brozic]

LA Boudoir Miami

To step into L.A. Boudoir is to step into the vintage closet you've always dreamed of, with trunks of lacy gloves and accessories, racks of silky lingerie and rows of slinky pumps. There are also bow ties and vintage shaving kits for men and mini shoes and garments for babies. It's essentially a lingerie store, with the option to rent for shoots or buy for yourself, however there's nothing wrong with belting a slip or adding a high-waisted skirt to a corset, and painting the town blush. Vintage Revenge and Couture

While the showroom is open by appointment only, the amount of vintage scores locked away at Vintage Revenge and Couture is seriously impressive. Whether you're looking for flapper hats from the 20s or bellbottoms from the 70s, this place has got a sample from every decade, each hand washed and dry cleaned organically before it lands in your basket. Miami Twice

Everybody in the 305 can tell you about Miami Twice, and with fairly good reason. For over 28 years it has been the most well-known vintage store, and the selection of vintage Louis Vuitton bags, 50s housewife frocks and library of Time Magazines can attest. They also carry myriad vintage inspired pieces, so if you're looking for an old time look with a modern fit, inquire within. [Photo: [Photo:Photo]

Dvurty Laundry Co

If you're looking for vintage University of Miami letterman jackets, old school hip-hop era snap backs or the raddest vintage sports gear in all of Miami, Dvurty Laundry Co is your ultimate go-to. They specializing in taking old or damaged goods, like 70s tees and 80s jackets, and turning them into gear that's fresh and totally wearable. While there is somewhat of a brick and mortar location (it's located within a rag house, which is where they get many of their pieces), your best bet is to catch the team when they've set up shop at a local pop-up market, like Wynwood's El Mini Market. Fashionevolution

If you could transport yourself to Downtown Miami circa 1967, you'd probably be wearing something that could now be found at Fashionevolution. Located near the Macys in Downtown, this store has some stellar clothing, bag and accessory finds from the 50s through the 80s, and most are designer labels. No luck here if you're looking for flapper frocks and depression era prairie skirts though. It's open on Tuesdays through Fridays, so don't be surprised if you get caught up window shopping on a Sunday. [Photo]
