The events and pop-ups are arranged roughly by their starting dates, and span from South Beach to Coral Gables. Many are free with an RSVP while others are paid for. We'll be updating things as they pop up on our radars, so keep this guide handy on your Smartphones as an easy way to navigate the storm. Only fashion photographers Hunter & Gatti have been able to put tribal daisies on Pharrel, or make Bruno Mars look like his photo popped straight out of a burning Western. Check out their celebrity portraiture, with shots of everyone from Elizabeth Olsen to Diane Kruger, from December 1 through the 30 at the SLS South Beach. A curious little shop called Mr Somebody & Mr Nobody has popped up in the Design District for Art Basel. Inside, you'll find an assortment of items that is very Dr. Seuss meets Africa, mostly because most if the items inside- scalloped sun umbrellas, sarongs, radio seat cushions- are hand-painted or carved throughout the continent. The pop-up will open on December 1 and close on December 15.
Hunger Games fans, this ones for you. Jenna Malone (who plays Johanna Mason in part 1) will be performing with her two (wo)man band, The Shoe, at The Thompson on Tuesday twice, at 6pm in the Seagrape lounge and at 9:30pm in the Crown Room. She's also a Gap model, so we're curious to ask if she's checked out the store on Lincoln Road yet...
It ain't Basel without some bling. Bid on (or just ogle) over 100 pieces of jewelery at Fine Art Auctions Miami's (FAAM) Exceptional Jewels. Previews will be open to the public through December 2 from 10am to 5pm, however the auction takes place at 6pm. Last year Alchemist brought us a drive thru pop-up shop on the fifth floor of the 1111 building. This year, they've teamed up with Snarkitecture, an architect and artist duo who's created installations for Calvin Klein, Design Miami, and even Marlins Stadium, to create Airball, a basketball locker-room inspired installation where you can compete at side-by-side hoops while you shop exclusive products available only during Art Basel. There will also be a concession stand by Monarch Room where you can snack while you watch others play. The pop-up will run from December 1 through 7.
In the market for artwork, but only have a $300 budget? Don't bother going anywhere but Festina Lente, an arts festival taking place in Wynwood that will be featuring art and performances from a collective of 50 emerging artists, photographers, designers and makers from the ConArts Collective. DJ sets, cocktail parties, documentary screenings and live art performances will take place from 6 to 9pm, and you can check out the artists and their work here
The Posters, a new LA based e-commerce site, is having the most Miami launch ever. They're sending off the site with a pig roast at The Standard Spa's mud deck. You'll be able to collect a series of custom posters from emerging and established artists there, and with each poster sold the company will donate a portion of the proceeds to arts education. The event will run from 2pm to 5pm on Tuesday, but stay till 6pm when Rosario Dawson's flick Phoenix is Rising debuts.
Chrome Hearts, a motorcycle-inspired luxury brand with a global following is opening up their first Miami shop in the Design District. It will be a "factory style" showroom, art gallery, and café where established and emerging artists and designers collaborate to create pieces exclusively for this space. We're told you can expect limited edition jewelry collections and one-of-a-kind creations. Also, you can grab a colada and a Cuban sandwich at David's Cafe in the store's courtyard.
Forget art for a second and lets talk about literature. Diane will be talking about and signing copies of her latest book, "The Woman I Wanted to Be" at 6:30 at Books & Books at Bal Barbour Shops. When Harper's BAZAAR curates a shop for you, you count your pennies and save up. The fashion magazine will be hosting a pop-up shop inside the Soho Beach House, where you can shop exclusive editor's picks from brands and artists like Pierre Hardy, Reed Krakoff, and Avery Nejam. Plus, you'll get to glam out with complimentary beauty sessions. The biggest draw of the entire three day bonanza is the cocktail party hosted by blogger Garancé Dore and BAZAAR's executive guest editor, Laura Brown. The Mondrian's pool is pop-up paradise, so head on over to shop Art Markit's Art Basel selections. The artsy online home retailer will be selling everything from Andy Warhol designed limited edition surfboards to Dee Occlepo totes. There will also be complimentary nail art manicures courtesy of Vanity Projects (which we'll add are super rad). The event will run from December 2 through the 7 from noon to 8pm. If you want to escape the craziness of the tents and convention center and maybe make a few purchases of your own, head to the Freehand Miami, where multiple pop-up shops will be showing, like VidaKush, Lost Boy Dry Goods, Men in Cities, Papua Swimwear, Jean and Tonic, and Trend Rush on various days. Local fave Style Mafia will be there from Thursday to Saturday with her entire new collection, so swing by for a last minute Basel look.
Queen of the Night is one of the hottest shows in New York right now, and for one night only it will be popping up in Miami. The show starts at 10pm on December 3, and involves dance, fashion, circus, theater nightlife and cuisine into one experience Vanity Fair calls "A mixture of glamour and decadent decay." Following the performance, there will be a whole nightlife experience with interactive installations, performances and DJ sets by the lady set. Tickets start at $225.
There is an entire exhibit at Mana Miami dedicated to the jumpsuits André 3000 wore on his Outkast reunion tour. The exhibit is titled, "I Feel Ya," and if you were on the tour route, you'll remember them being deeply insightful, printed with questions like "Art, or fart?" and "have you stopped growing?" See all 47 of them beginning December 3 and it's completely free and open to the public.
It's not a party in Miami unless there are models involved, and this one's chock full of them. On Wednesday, December 3, head to Design District boutique En Avance from 4 to 8pm for a night of complimentary hair and clothes styling, make-up applications, body art, and hot (hot!) models. An art exhibit, ALL ABOUT SHOES. That's what you'll find inside the Peacock Foundation Studio at the Adrienne Arsht Center, where revolutionary shoes throughout history will be displayed from December 3 through December 6 from 11am to 7pm. Manolo, Louboutin, Chanel, Alexander McQueen- all will be displayed alongside past inventions like geisha sandals and future staples like Melissa Shoe's plastic, futuristic designs. Tickets are $35.
If sneakers are your fashion vice, New York-based footwear and apparel brand British Knights Sneakers will be having its relaunch after-party at the Freehand, with a super soundtrack by DJs Daai Lo and Avilo and the works of illustrator Mwanel Pierre Louis. Everyone knows Wednesday is ladies night, which is why you could head over to the Deauville for Galore Magazine's Basel Babes party. It takes place from 11pm to 2am and is hosted by locals Marcella Novela, Amanda Del Duca, as well as other prominent photographers and artists. Alessandra Gold has put together an event called Miami Design Market, which will run from December 4 through 7 in her Midtown shop. It infuses gallery exhibits with shopping, and different headliners come about each night alongside documentary exhibitions. A Go Green Fashionista live art exhibit will happen on Friday, a surprise talent appearance will go down on Saturday, and at the end of the event, a Kruzin sneakers art table will be unveiled. Food and cocktails are involved, and it's free and open to the public from 11am to 11pm.
Don't let Basel get in the way of your workout routine. On Friday at 10am, Steven Cheuk, founder of the s10 system, is hosting a bootcamp at the Deauville poolside deck and beach.
LVXL Clothing & Trading Company, a Miami-based "street luxe" brand, and ARVE Management is hosting its first installation of "Vibration Thursdays" ath The News Lounge Cafe with a performance by local jazz band Elements and Atlanta songstress known "Q," who's known for her jazz, funk soul and pop sound. $3 to $12 tapas will be served, so come hungry and thirsty. YogArt returns to Art Basel for its fourth consecutive year, bringing yoga, art and live music to the Wynwood Walls. Local yogi fave Dawn B will be leading the poses, as will some other prominent yoga instructors in the city. MC Yogi, DJ Drez, Marti Nikko and Afrobeta will be providing the sounds on different nights. The event takes place at 5:30pm on Thursday and Friday, and at 9:30am on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $35, and snacks and healthy refreshments will follow.
Club Monaco is celebrating their grand opening on Lincoln Road on December 5 from 5 to 7pm. Olek, an artist featurd by Jeffrey Deitch and known best for her crazy crochet works that make you wonder "how did you wrap that elephant in a bunch of yarn?" will be featuring a very fashionable installation of over 200 pieces of Club Monaco clothing. Both will be there, as will DJ Zoel who will be providing the music.
Why should you trek all the way over to South Miami during Art Basel? Because if you're a true shoe aficionado, then you absolutely have to meet CFDA award-winning shoe designer Paul Andrew. On Thursday, December 4 from noon to 2pm, he'll be launching his Spring/Summer 2015 collection (which isn't even available online!) at Capretto, so if you want to get in questions about his stints working with Donna Karan, Calvin Klein and Alexander McQueen, then this is your only chance.
On Thursday, December 4, an event called SOCIAL will be taking place at the newly opened Wasabi Miami, hosted by local blogger D'ana Nunez from Collections and Volumes.The event promises to bring together creative types and influencers, and there will be live art installations by Atlanta-based graffiti artist Sage Guillory and performances by Werc Crew, Xavier Blk, Father, and more. There will also be a pop-up shop by local hipster/urbanwear brand Elephant Ink. The event runs from 7 to 11pm. Tickets are $15 at the door, or you can get them for $7 if you buy them now.
If you're posted up in South Beach on Thursday, 305 Music & Arts is happening from 3 to 8pm at the Congress Hotel, and is stacking up fashion shows by brands YAYA & Singular Collective and Luxe Isle, live mural paintings, and live music and DJ sets from Don Redfox, Tremends, and The Moon Caravan. The event takes place on the 5th and 6th floors.
Need a break from gallery hopping? On Friday, December 5 from 10am to noon, exhale South Beach is hosting a free yoga class accompanies by a DJ, followed by an acro yoga performance by local brand YOGiiZA and live graffiti artist demo. Stilo Magazine is throwing a charity fashion show fundraiser for DOC IT, a non-profit that
raises awareness and funds for ovarian cancer, at the Wynwood Warehouse Project on Saturday, December 6. Kohls and Diesel Miami are headlining, and portions of the proceeds from certain artworks will be donated to DOC IT.
