Another secondhand store bites the dust this week. Out of the Closet is closing up its South Beach location on Alton Road this Sunday. As the Miami Herald reports, Out of the Closet is the second thrift store in the area to close. SoBe Thrifty, which was located just a block away, closed last January due to a slowdown in customer traffic because of construction.
Out of the Closet sells second-hand clothing and furniture and also offers free HIV and STD testing (it was owned by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation). The Herald reports that there are 22 Out of the Closet locations throughout the country, and district manager Paul Stanley declined to comment on the closing of this particular location. There is still an Out of the Closet location in Edgewater, on Biscayne and 29th Street, which is closing.
