There's a new fashion truck rolling around town, and this one has roots in Coconut Grove. Bungalow 33 is Miami's newest boutique on wheels, and brings boutique style at reasonable prices straight to your doorstep.
At this store you'll find brands like Donna Mizani, Style Stalker, Bella Dahl, and Flying Monkey Jeans (all brands sold on sites like Revolve, Shopbop, and Bloomingdale's) for prices that range from $19 for a simple top to $180 for the pantsuit of your dreams. You'll also find local jewelry designers there like Cecilia Gonzales and Gina Cueto, and owner Michelle Applebaum is working to bring more into her cozy, well-decorated mobile boutique.
So fashion trucks are nothing new– they began to pop up around the country about five years ago, and Business Insider reported that there were about 500 across the country last year. But while they've gained major steam in cities like New York and LA, Miami's wheels haven't turned quite so quickly; many local mobile boutiques have started their engines, only to shut them shortly after. Why, then, would Applebaum hop in the driver's seat of her own boutique on wheels?
"I opted to open a business like this because, when it came down to it, I knew that the costs associated with starting a boutique at a brick and mortar location would be all too much," she states. "The uniqueness of the concept is what really excited me. I am not waiting for customers to come to my store... at the end of the day, if a location doesn't work, I can change it."
And change it she will. Applebaum already has a few collaborations in the works around town, most notably with Vanity Projects in Little River and with The Car Wash on US-1, near Coconut Grove. Her shop will be popping up this Friday at Berries in the Grove from 3 to 6pm, and on Saturday at IronFlower Fitness in MiMo from 10am to 2pm. You can also book Bungalow 33 for house parties, fundraising and charity events, office shopping breaks, bachelorette parties, and even divorce parties.
Bungalow will be updating its Instagram and Facebook pages daily to keep you in the loop as to where it will be traveling, as well as its website, so hit your follow and like buttons stat. The only thing better than a brick and mortar store is a boutique parked right in your driveway.
