Thursday

LITTLE HAITI – Now that Vanity Projects has brought its sick nail art services to Miami, it's time to party with our hands up! There will be complimentary beer, wine and cocktails, plus goodie bags from Floss Gloss. RSVP is mandatory, so email fashion@workshopcollective.com. BAL HARBOUR– Heels have an interesting 130-year history, as the world's most impractical shoe. On Thursday at 7pm, Bal Harbour's The Fashion Project is delving into this with a discussion, Balancing Act: The History of High Heels, led by Elizabeth Semmelhack, senior curator of the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto. She'll cover all grounds: impractical dress as a socio-economic marker, East-West trade and the lure of the exotic, gender politics and the construction of eroticized femininity. The talk will take place at Books & Books, and is followed by a reception at Roger Vivier. Bal Harbour Shops, 9700 Collins Ave., Bal Harbour, FL; (305) 866-0311.
