Thursday

LITTLE HAITI – Now that Vanity Projects has brought its sick nail art services to Miami, it's time to party with our hands up! On Thursday, June 11th, from 6 to 9pm, four of Miami's top bloggers and entrepreneurs, Jana Carrero, Ria Michelle, Simonette Pereira, and Maria Tettamanti will be hosting a nail trend party, where you can get a full-on, ten-digit masterpiece designed by each leading lady on your nails for just $25. There will be complimentary beer, wine and cocktails, plus goodie bags from Floss Gloss. RSVP is mandatory, so email fashion@workshopcollective.com. BAL HARBOUR– Heels have an interesting 130-year history, as the world's most impractical shoe. On Thursday at 7pm, Bal Harbour's The Fashion Project is delving into this with a discussion, Balancing Act: The History of High Heels, led by Elizabeth Semmelhack, senior curator of the Bata Shoe Museum in Toronto. She'll cover all grounds: impractical dress as a socio-economic marker, East-West trade and the lure of the exotic, gender politics and the construction of eroticized femininity. The talk will take place at Books & Books, and is followed by a reception at Roger Vivier. Bal Harbour Shops, 9700 Collins Ave., Bal Harbour, FL; (305) 866-0311.
