Mickey Demos Boxing & Fitness may be the newest gym of its kind in Miami, but it certainly packs in the most history. It just opened at Miami Ironside, and within this industrial-looking space you can just as easily take a yoga class or hook into a personal training session as you can fine tune your boxing and sparring technique, and then grab a healthy salad for the road.
The workouts you'll find at the gym combine cardio, strength, and interval training and can be customized to fit all fitness levels. We're told the most popular classes are Mickey's 9am and 5:30pm classes, however at the gym you'll find everything from Full Body Shaping to Cardio Beat Down. When you're done with your workout, there's a small cafe inside, where you can buy healthy, organic, grab-and-go meals or simply stock up on your supplements for the week.
It's the only gym in Miami where you'll find Mickey Demos, founder of the Mickey Demos method and head coach of the University of Miami's Boxing Team, teaching students how to counterpunch, sucker punch, and jab. Does the name sound familiar? His dad was famed UM legend Mickey Demos Sr., who's in the Sports Hall of Fame for being the most successful boxer at the school in the 40s and 50s, before UM could even dream up a brand-sponsored football team.
