Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
In continuing with their mission to overtake historic buildings, Books & Books will be opening up shop at the Adrienne Arsht Center, right inside the tower currently known as the Carnival Tower. Although this location will surely sell books, the emphasis will be on the cafe, which will be open for breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.
"My philosophy is that I just want to be in interesting places," said Mitchell Kaplan in an interview with the Miami Herald. This will be the store's fifth Miami location (the other four are in Miami Beach, Coral Gables, Bal Harbour and Miami International Airport), and it is positioned to be quite the interesting place, with all of the museums popping up to the South at Museum Park, and everything that's projected to happen with Miami World Center downtown. Parking should be free before 10 a.m. on weekdays. Other than that you'll have to pay at the meters unless a performance is going on. They hope to be open by late November, in time for the Miami International Book Fair.
