Ikea Miami opened roughly one hour ago, and it's been pandemonium! As expected people began camping out on Monday as early as 5am (tents, air mattresses and sleeping bags were involved), and since then hundreds have been awaiting their chance to snatch first sets of Billy bookshelves and Linnmon table tops. In fact, August 27 has officially been named IKEA Day here in Miami, according to IKEA Miami's Twitter account.
Complimentary coffee, doughnuts and cinnamon buns have been involved, not to mention prizes like couches, chairs and mystery pouches for the first 1000 or so guests, the first being a guy named Tony who has been milking his 15 minutes of retail fame on the 'Gram. As any Miami celebration would have, there were stilt dancers, Pitbull songs, and live music to get the people going. There are more promotions and goodies to come over the next few days, which we've detailed for you here.
