Basico, the hip menswear store that carries cool guy brands like Zanerobe, Scotch and Soda and Closed, will be opening a second, larger location in Wynwood around October, right across from Panther Coffee on NW 2nd Ave. After seeing how successful his Wynwood pop-up shop was during Art Basel this year, owner Francesco Cianci pounced on the opportunity to buy up this urban space, which will mark the first menswear only store in all of Wynwood.
The design of this Basico will reflect the neighborhood, with urban accents and graffiti-covered walls, although Cianci's remained mum about who the artist is. It will be more hip and carry more T-shirts and sneakers, although you'll still find the beachwear that Basico has been known for since it opened 15 years ago off of Ocean Drive. It will definitely be carrying more brands (it's double the size of the original) and he plans to have monthly happy hours and events during Art Walk.
"I want this place for the locals. It's hard for the locals to go to where I am on the beach, so the beach is 90 percent tourists," Cianci says. "We've been very successful over there, but a lot of people still don't know us, even though we've been there for 15 years. Here you have the brands you'd get at Aventura or down South, only more curated." Epically curated finds for Miami's most sartorially savvy gents? Don't mind if we do.
