Welcome to Spring Forward, where we scour the city's best boutiques in search of Spring's top trends.
The dawn of spring is upon us, friends, so you can you can slowly begin to move the three sweaters you own towards the back of your closets. It's a time for new beginnings, and where better to start than with your wardrobe? For our first Spring Forward feature, we visited Aleren Young Contemporary, a South Miami boutique that is the epitome of local style. According to Janine Hensley, the store's owner, it's all about pastels, florals and pieced denim this season. Read on to find out how the team at Aleren interprets the trends, and click through our Polyvore set to shop them!
Florals have blossomed once again for Spring and Summer, whether you opt for a complete top and bottom set or invest in solely one. The hotter it gets in Miami, the more breathable you want your clothing to feel, which is why Hensley chose this silk maxi number by Karina Grimaldi. As in nature, flowers come in many shapes and colors, so keep an open mind when shopping for a floral frock. Remember, Miami is a bold city so the bigger the blossom, the better.
Our bottoms are getting a revamp this season with pieced denim. "They're mixing different mixed media fabrics like tapestries and brocades with denim treatments in a jean form," says Hensley. Check out this pieced skinny number from the 7 For All Mankind x Malhia Kent collection. The details in the blue tapestry come together to make a bold statement in an otherwise simple American staple, don't you think?
"Pastels are important for spring and summer ," says Hensley. Give yourself a moment to take in this open back dress by Blaque Label. The bodice is made with vegan pleather, which is also a trend that's carried on through 2013 and definitely roughens up a pastel number.
