This Eyelash Curler is Better than Mascara

I'm not a huge fan of makeup; usually I leave the house barefaced. But one thing I never forget to do is curl my eyelashes. It just makes me feel so much prettier. I've gone through my fair share of these little metal eye enhancers, and I find that none beat the one by Kevin Aucoin. More often than not these things can be really flimsy, but Kevin Aucoin's is powerful, giving your lashes a curl that lasts from first thing in the morning till the end of the night.

The rich but quick-to-absorb formula contains ginger root and bamboo extract for antioxidant and anti-aging benefits. If you typically buy drugstore moisturizer, the $30 price might seem steep, but a little of this product goes a long way. Seriously, after I slathered it on for a week, three separate people asked me if I'd gotten Botox.

Today's pick comes from Racked Dallas editor Anna Caplan: If you've opened up a magazine or newspaper at any point in the last few months, you've seen the somewhat aggressive advertising campaign by Detroit start-up Shinola. This new maker of bicycles, watches, leather goods and journals is on my one to, um, watch list, if only for its handsome products. But while I'm not quite in the market for a $900 timepiece right now, I am totally enamored by Shinola's line of linen hard-cover journals (available online and locally at Steven Alan).

The 3.75" by 5.5" version, made in Michigan from "acid-free paper sourced from sustainably managed North American forests" (you can't make this stuff up) fits just fine inside my bag, so it's ideal for on-the-go scribbling. No more note-taking on bank deposit slips for me.

Today's pick comes from Racked editorial director Izzy Grinspan: Blue is my favorite color, and Yves Klein blue is my favorite blue, so of course I'm wildly attracted to this cute little pouch from Tracey Tanner. Handmade in Brooklyn from Italian leather, it sounds like it should cost a bundle, but you can get it at ethical online marketplace Zady for only $69. As the Zady team points out, it's technically a cosmetics bag, but it could easily double as a clutch. Personally, I plan to fill it with useful odds and ends and toss it into my giant leather tote—the one that eats useful odds and ends if I don't keep everything carefully categorized.
