Racked is no longer publishing. Thank you to everyone who read our work over the years. The archives will remain available here; for new stories, head over to Vox.com, where our staff is covering consumer culture for The Goods by Vox. You can also see what we’re up to by signing up here.
Yes, you read it right. Crate & Barrel, the upper echelon of affordable, modern home goods and trinkets, is closing for good at The Falls on October 26. The store opened there 19 years ago, so it's a bittersweet goodbye for the Pinecrest, Palmetto Bay and Kendall crowd, but not for long. The store will be reopening at the Village of Merrick Park on November 13, just a few days before Madewell opens its doors. In its place will be Columbia Sportswear's first saltwater store, which is slated to open in 2015.
This gives you just enough time to stock up on half-priced Halloween goodies. Actually, it gives you enough time to stock up on everything you'd ever need for your entire home, because EVERYTHING in the store is marked at 50 percent off. Hurry, though. An employee tells us that they're down to less than half of their normal inventory, as the sale started about three weeks ago. Run.
