The fashion industry has lost its leading gentleman. Oscar de la Renta passed away last night at 82 years old, after a very long battle with cancer. The Dominican born designer was great at many things, from outfitting the world's leading stateswomen in couture to making brides across the globe glimmer, but if his legacy had to be summed up into one sentence, it would be this: he defined the look of femininity in this generation.

With a boutique at Bal Harbour Shops— which recently moved to a new location in August· de la Renta held Miami as close to home as he could, as he told Ocean Drive Magazine a few months ago. "I love Miami. Even if I am there for work, I feel that I am there on a holiday. It's the closest place to my home country in the United States." His is a tough void to fill, but his absence will be fulfilled by Peter Copping, formerly of Nina Ricci.
